Striking statistics

Though we are still in tornado season here in the Midwest, 'lightning season' is from June through August.

According to a U.S. Fire Administration report:

• there are 17,400 fires annually caused by lightning
• the result is $138 million in property damage
• 51% cause damage to the outdoors
• 41% cause damage to structures
